-
Mark sampling bag to identify sample location.
-
Ensure sample are is free from dust.
Some surfaces may need to be coated with a sealant before sampling or the
area taped.
-
Remove backing paper from the self-adhesive tape in the centre of
the sampling bag and, ensuring that the bag is vertical press the tape firmly on
to the surface to be sampled. Check
that the adhesion is good and the bag is firmly attached.
-
Moisten the foam pad.
-
Place the drill or the core sampling tool in the centre of the
foam pad and gently begin drilling or turning the sample tool.
Should the bag start to twist, stop turning or drilling; hold the foam
pad firmly and rotate the drill bit or the core sampling tool until the bag is
straightened.
-
When sufficient sample material has been loosened, withdraw the
drill bit or core sampling tool from the hole, keeping them within the sampling
bag. If using a drill, tap bit gently against the surface of the
material to remove any residue sample. If
using a core sampling tool, take the tommy bar and insert it through the opening
in the core sampling tool, then carefully push the sample into the sampling bag.
-
Make sure that the sample taken goes to the bottom of the sampling
bag.
-
Before removing the drill or core sampling tool from the sampling
bag, have a damp, disposable cloth to hand as well as a piece of sealing tape.
-
Squeeze the foam pad around the drill bit or the core sampling
tool as you remove it from the sampling bag.
At the same time be wiping the emerging drill bit or core sampling tool
with the damp cloth. Enclose the
the drill bit or core sampling tool completely in the damp cloth.
-
Immediately seal the hole in the foam pad either with the sealing
tape or by peeling off the backing paper from the self-adhesive tape on the
sampling bag and then folding the bag over, sticking the tape over the hole in
the foam pad.
-
Thoroughly wipe the drill bit or the core sampling tool damp
cloth, ensuring the interior of the core sampling tool is not neglected (if
necessary, rinse it in water and dry well).
-
Carefully remove the sampling bag from the surface.
Some surfaces may come away when the bag is removed (see Note 2). Seal the opening with sealing tape or by peeling off the
paper on the other self-adhesive tape on the sampling bag and folding the bag
over to stick the tape over the hole.
-
Seal the hole in the surface that has been sampled.
